In fact I was in a local pub late on Sunday, time called and drinking up time gone when one of the bubblier barmaids asked a chap (who always arrives late) to drink up as she wanted to go home, he gave her a smart remark about not coming in here to be moaned at etc etc but I know he does it 7 days a week which would piss me off immensely.

In that and Dawns examples I could agree, but sadly I do think it's down to a manager just not being suitable at face to face daily contact with people

CheersFilrdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03193228391167385203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7115711129217514621.post-24716646328118575182012-09-11T12:23:51.147+01:002012-09-11T12:23:51.147+01:00Oh yeah, I'm completely understanding that som...Oh yeah, I'm completely understanding that some customers are arses. Even regulars. I dunno, maybe it's just me who makes an effort to try and have a conversation and get to know the places I drink in!

Dawn, if I did have an issue with any of your staff or pubs; I would have a word with you in private because I know that you genuinely do care about your customers (even those like me who's not that regular - I must become a regular though)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03393611989380622061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7115711129217514621.post-17199468237092406132012-09-11T12:17:18.246+01:002012-09-11T12:17:18.246+01:00Funnily enough, it happens the other way around to...Funnily enough, it happens the other way around too - I have customers (just a couple), that have been regularly using my pubs for years, so must not have a huge dislike of myself or staff, but who will still not smile at me, make eye contact, pass the time of day & who will also ignore me in the street!
I agree that bar staff/management/licensee attitudes are hugely important in a pub, but I guess nobody can get it right every time, especially with the immense pressure on pubs at the moment. And there are also customers who treat bar staff like pieces of dirt, all too frequently, so maybe some of it is down to bad experiences.
I hope Nate if you have had less then satisfactory service in either of my pubs that you would please let me know (in private, not on Twitter!) I too have a "local" where I'm not saying I prop up the bar but the family and I are in there at least once a week, usually to eat, and there's never a flicker of recognition or anything.

It's obviously a hard balance to strike as sometimes the last thing you want is an overbearing "mein host" spouting endlessly when all you want is a quiet drink but at the very least I expect a "nice to see you again......" when approaching the bar.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15687782411254701383noreply@blogger.com
