The Session 65: So Lonely... – The roundup

Image
EDIT: Last minute addition at the bottom, I've also added the host of the next session Wow. Just wow. I am completely overwhelmed and surprised by the amount of replies I got because A) I’m only a new beer blogger – I’ve only been doing this since March & B) After I decided upon the topic, I had a second thought... I thought it was a bit of a shit topic. Turns out it was quite a good and thought provoking topic. I’ve been trying to work out the best way to do this with so many replies. I think I’m going to do it blog by blog and quote from each. It might be alright. We’ll see. As you know, my topic was about going to the pub alone and in my post , I confessed that I go to the pub alone quite frequently and gave a whole host of reasons why I do this; my favourite reason has to be just to get away for a bit. Out of it. With nice surroundings and a nice pint. I noticed a theme whilst going through all of your posts: no matter where you are in the world,...

The Session 65: So lonely…

Image
The Session is a monthly event for the beer blogging community which was started by Stan Hieronymus at  Appellation Beer . On the first Friday of each month, all participating bloggers write about a predetermined topic. Each month a different blog is chosen to host The Session, choose the topic, and post a roundup of all the responses received. For more info on The Session, check out the Brookston Beer Bulletin’s  nice archive page . Despite still being a young blogger with not the greatest following, I really wanted to get in there early. I’ll probably get about two responses, maximum but screw it. It’s all fun, right? Speaking of fun, going to the pub with a bunch of mates is great… you have a few beers and a laugh, generally a fun time and all. I love going to the pub with mates but sometimes I go to a pub alone and I enjoy it. Other people say I’m weird for this as there seems to be a stigma attached to being in the pub alone – alcoholism. Booze: Dragon Hall Beer Festival – The Aftermath

So, the past weekend saw Dragon Hall Beer Festival 2 and it was a massive success. We had pretty much the whole crew of volunteers back plus some new additions which was great. We’re a great team. We had about 30 cask ales and bottled beers from Norfolk as well as 4 kegged beers and 9 bottled beers from Ghent in Belgium. Basically, if you missed it you’re an absolute fool. My two favourite beers of the weekend: Van Steenberge Gulden Draak 9000 Quadrupel – A wonderful example of a quadruple. 10.5% but definitely doesn’t taste it. Got nice caramel and malty aromas. Flavours are caramel, bananas & custard, light yeast and spice. Norwich Bear Platinum Blonde – A premium bitter. Pours a lovely golden orange colour with a bubbly off-white head. Biscuity malt aromas with some citrus. Tastes citrusy (possibly lemon) with that same buscuity malt flavour. Definitely my favourite cask ale of the weekend. Booze: My dream bar

At some point in time I would like to own a bar and lately I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what it would be like so I thought I’d share my dream with you (Don’t steal my dream). Appearance: I want it to be in a glass fronted modern looking building. I want white walls with a chrome bar. I’m going for the American style taps on the back wall thing with tap handles to match each beer. For seating there needs to be leather sofas in a coffee shop style placement with chrome coffee tables. Various other seating around the middle will be like American style booths. Beer: Craft Keg beer: I’ll have Brewdog , Magic Rock , Lovibonds , Black Isle and Meantime for the British selection. There will be a couple of German beers; Franziskaner Weissbier and Jever Pilsner are personal favourites so they’ll do. From Belgium comes Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple and Bacchus Kriek (The ladies love the fruity ting). From America I have to have Brooklyn Lager , Stone Brewing Co (Specifica...
