The Session #74 - Finding Beer Balance

The Session is a monthly event for the beer blogging community which was started by Stan Hieronymus at Appellation Beer. On the first Friday of each month, all participating bloggers write about a predetermined topic. Each month a different blog is chosen to host The Session, choose the topic, and post a roundup of all the responses received. For more info on The Session, check out the Brookston Beer Bulletin’s nice archive page.

This month’s session is hosted by Bryan of This is Why I’m Drunk and it’s about ‘finding beer balance’.

When I read his original post, I dunno, I read it and I thought “Is he asking me if I’m an alcoholic or even worse, suggesting that I am?” I mean what the fuck? It seems like it to me. I then decided that essentially, that is what he’s asking but in a slightly more polite way.

I’m not an alcoholic, I’m an enthusiast. Sure, I drink a lot but I don’t feel the need to and at the same time I don’t feel that I need to find any kind of ‘balance’ or excuse as to why I should/shouldn’t drink tonight. I drink because I like it.

People who do go out of their way to find some kind of balance in life, they’re the alcoholics. The ones who feel that if they don’t drink for two days of week they have to find something to replace the beer with which is just replacing one addiction for another whereas me? Well if I have a night off drinking, I do exactly the same shit as I’d do if I wasn’t drinking.

So the answer is no. I haven’t found ‘beer balance’ because quite simply, I don’t need to.

  1. A solid entry, Nate. Didn't mean to insinuate anything about alcoholism (otherwise this month's Session would just turn into an AA meeting!) but I think you've got a valid point. So long as we're doing things reasonably and we feel fulfilled, who cares?

    Cheers

    1. Cheers buddy... it wasn't a dig at you! Just jest really... everyone interperates the post how they want to which is the key.

  2. It's clear to all that your drinking is in pursuit of excellence and variety. A bit like your swearing! Anyway that's a better justification. Rather like hops to beer, your swearing adds flavour to your language!
